Play album. Artist images. 2,327 listeners. The Brass Ring was a group of American studio musicians led by saxophonist and arranger Phil Bodner. They were based in New York City and were stylistically similar to The Tijuana Brass, The Brass Buttons, the Baja Marimba Band and other Now Sound instrumental pop groups from the 1960s, although the twin-sax sound more closely resembles Billy Vaughn, whose biggest hits were in the 1950s. Formed in New York City, the Brass Ring were led by Phil Bodner and began their chart run in 1966, when the single, The Phoenix Love Theme reached 32 on the Hot-100. Three other 45s followed until The Disadvantages Of You returned them to the Hot-100 36 in 1967. The Disadvantages Of You album was the Brass Rings fourth and reached 193 on the album chart. Has been played on. With Brass Ring, that is not a problem. I might be going to far if I said the Brass Ring handles easy listening with a fun sense of irony. It may be that this only sounds such from a 2010 perspective. Maybe unfortunately, that voice does not show up much throughout the rest of the album maybe that angel flew up to heaven to teach Goldsboro's dead honey a little about the birds and bees. But there are a lot of covers of then hits, California Dreamin', Look Of Love, that sound almost as if Neal Hefti arranged them.
