The band worked with producer Don Gilmore in Los Angeles, but were disappointed with these sessions, and instead worked with Butch Walker at Sage and Sound Recording in Los Angeles then back in Cardiff with Richard Jackson and London with Stephen Harris. The band's first tour with new guitarist Paul Mullen involved touring some of the smaller less-known venues and clubs of the United Kingdom. The second album by Welsh indie guitar band the Automatic was released in 2008, two years after their debut, Not Accepted Anywhere. The band occupied the same space in a very crowded market as the Kaiser Chiefs, the Killers, Kasabian, and a number of other guitar-based rock bands not always beginning with the letter K. On the debut album, however, they managed to come up with a killer track with Monster, and that helped propel Not Accepted Anywhere into the Top Three on its. The Automatic are the only welsh band that I wish weren't on hiatus right now. This is their second album, and it's great. Every song has something different to offer, yet they all flow seamlessly into a strong collection of heavy songs that carry dance-able post-punk grooves, as well as a sense of punk urgency and excitement. Each song is different from the previous one, but that all carry a sense of intensity to it that is uniquely possessed by The Automatic here. The vocal melodies and harmonies are catchy and great, the drums pound, the synths shine, and the riffs are on the heav.
