Terry Ellis Terry Lynn Ellis, born September 5, 1963 in Houston, Texas, USA, is an African-American R&B singer. After receiving a degree in Marketing from Prarie View A & M University, she joined En Vogue. Terry Ellis began her musical career in 1990 as a member of For You, along with Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones. The group later changed its name from For You to En Vogue and recorded a parade of R&B hits. En Vogue member Terry Ellis solo debut, Southern Gal, is quite similar to the records of her band. Produced by Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, who helmed both of the En Vogue albums, Southern Gal is a smooth, commercial-oriented, hip-hop-informed, contemporary R&B album with pop leanings.
