Inferno is the seventy-third release and twelfth live album by German electronic group Tangerine Dream. It is the first live album to feature new compositions since 220 Volt Live 1993. The lyrical content is based on the first part of the Italian narrative poem Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Inferno is the first album to feature percussionist Iris Camaa who remained with the group until 2014. Inferno is the first album of a trilogy consisting of the following albums all inspired by Dante's work. Arguably, Tangerine Dream's Edgar Froese is to rock what Gunther Schuller is to jazz - the German innovator who has fought to take his genre out of the streets and the smoky bars and move it to prestigious concert halls that usually host classical orchestras. Or, as a hip-hopper would say, Froese took rock out of the 'hood just as Schuller took jazz out of the 'hood. Tangerine Dream combines their music with pretty vocals and it's entrancing at first but the cd's middle section lacks variety turning the music into a sleep inducing drone before recovering nicely in the final wife summed up this cd inadvertantly because when the cd started she said What's that pretty music and fell asleep on the couch and. not the usual Tangerine Dream album.
