The album was released on September 24, 2013. The album is in a two CD format. The first CD contains songs with Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes as vocalist. The second CD contains the same songs in a slightly different order, each track featuring a different guest vocalist. The album features guest appearances from Ben Harper, Elvis Costello, Dr. John, Jim James, Grace Potter, Toots Hibbert, Glenn Hughes, Ty Taylor, Dave Matthews, Myles. By a Thread Gov't Mule album. By a Thread is the ninth studio album by American southern rock jam band Gov't Mule. The album was released on October 27, 2009, by Evil Teen Records. It is the first album to feature bassist Jorgen Carlsson, who joined the band in 2008, replacing Andy Hess. Mule is my favorite band in the whole world, so I'm the expert. I would stay away from from their studio albums, although their latest release By A Thread is really good. Mule has hundreds, if not thousands, of live concert recordings available on their website for about 10 each. Just take your pick as they are all good. It is Gov't mule at their finest and features two full length, live shows, Boston and Chicago. As far as CD's go, pick up Live At The Roseland Ballroom and Live, With A Little Help From Our Friends. I have about 10 different versions of Thorazine Shuffle in my opinion their best song and they are all good. About half the album is tried-and true Gov't Mule while the other half is the Mule playing their version of reggae. Makes no difference to me. I like them both. The talent of the Mule shines through on everything they play. Nice to hear some reggae witth an occasional ripping guitar, courtesy of Warren Haynes. Considering the price, it is also a good value. It offers three sets of amazing music. The recording and mix is perfect. While I love the reggae material and covers, the original material has been growing on me. While I'm not a member of the Gov't Mule Army, the Dub Side of the Mule box set may just make me a sonic soldier. Read more. 23 people found this helpful.
