Promo CDr zum Album "Some Things Never Change" 1997
Supertramp is the self-titled debut album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in July 1970. It has sometimes been published under the title Now and Then. It was not released in the United States until late 1977, but available through importers and was usually carried in record stores that specialised in British imports. The 1977 issue reached No. 158 on the US Billboard 200. Rick Davies is interviewd by Bas Westerweel of TOPPOP just before he performs 'Free As A Bird', 14 March 1988. He talks about the origin of the saxophonist John Helliwell on reunion possibilities, surviving punk, the Paris live album and more. What exactly is the state of play with Supertramp now Its Ricks band, because he owns the name and hes the one writer left since Roger departed. We still make albums, although theyre not as popular as Breakfast In America but they do okay, and were pleased with what weve done. Supertramp manages to create enjoyable pop music. Disco, at the time, was just beginning to fade away, as 1979 was the year disco died. In more up-tempo songs, disco influenced bass fills occur all over the place. However, the real instrumental standout on this album is the keyboard. Of course, as this is essentially a pop album, the singles are generally best songs on the album, as they are mainly the only songs that are able to make the catchy hooks needed to make a good pop song. The 4 singles, The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, Breakfast in America, and Take The Long Way Home, all have a voice of their own and are instantly recognizable. Supertramps 1979 quadruple platinum-selling smash Breakfast in America is not, in the strictest, sense a concept album. Its principal creators, the British-born prog-rockers Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies have been quite clear about this point. The bands three previous records had all gone gold in the U. but the runaway success of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 smash The Logical Song, pushed Breakfast in America to new heights. Perhaps best known as a mid-1980s era member of Supertramp, Marty Walsh is a guitarist youve heard - even if. Walsh began working with Supertramp just before the arrival Brother Where You Bound in 1985 - an album that featured the groups most recent Top 40 hit, Cannonball - Supertramp Blew Up With Breakfast in America. Jeff Giles. A&M Records. After toiling in obscurity with their earliest releases, Supertramp managed to score a few hit singles and albums during the mid-to-late '70s but they were only a warm-up for their sixth album, Breakfast in America. As Hodgson explained in an interview with Melody Maker later that year, The songs on this album were chosen because we really wanted to get a feeling of fun and warmth across. I think we felt that we had done three pretty serious albums, and it was about time we showed the lighter side of ourselves. Supertramp album. Just better. As the songs for Supertramp's third album, Crime of the Century 1974, were introduced into the band's live set, the songs from Supertramp were all dropped, never to return. The two exceptions are Home Again and Surely, which were occasionally played during encores for several years after. Surely has also been included on some of the band's compilation CDs and is a favorite of the UK Supertramp tribute band Logical Tramp. Breakfast in America, Supertramps sixth studio album, hardly underperformed in reaching number three in the UK and number one in the US on its release. But it has gone on to sell over 20 million copies since, meaning it obviously counts more than just Alan Partridge as a current fan. Made by a band of Brits living in Hollywood, the album comprises a series of vignettes about modern life in America. It is skilfully realised by its chief songwriters, pianist Rick Davies and guitarist Roger Hodgson, and is never too cynical or willing to bite the hand that feeds. Yet the record is still probin. Supertramp Archive, Montreal, Quebec. 1 this week in 1979, Supertramp's Breakfast in America. Rick said, I insisted that we shouldn't have an orchestra on the album, that it should be the band, so whatever noises are on the album, they were produced by the five guys in the band. Adrian Bell. 10 May at 02:02. The Progressive Alternative 154 is partly birdsong, partly dreams. for the latter there's an obvious Supertramp song so I played something from 1977 which starts with a nice songbird instead. My latest show, up now on Mixcloud. Steve Vanhacht. 3 May a
