Anderson now had a vision to create a Prince-inspired album, controversially not deciding to work with the bands father , Ed Buller, and instead have Steve Osborne produce the album. This also caused friction with Oakes, as the Osborne made his guitar playing much less prominent. Head Music, like its predecessor, topped the UK charts, but critics and fans were divided. It also destroyed the band, as the subsequent tour became the final straw for Codling, and he quit the band shortly afterwards.
