Album

Nothing Like The Sun' didn't start out to be an album about anything. I came up with these 10 or 12 songs and it was only later that I realised a lot of the songs were about women, but not just women as romantic objects, but women as advisers, women as companions, as mothers. It was a very therapeutic record for me to make. I mean my mother had just died, and I suppose I was obsessed by the idea of females and how was I going to replace her. All This Time CDRom, '95. There was a variety of styles and feelings on '. Nothing Like The Sun&a. Nothing Like the Sun is the second solo studio album by English singer-songwriter Sting. Nothing Like the Sun Nothing Like the Sun is a 1987 album by Sting. The title comes from Shakespeare's Sonnet 130 My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun, which Sting used in the song Sister Moon. The album won Best British Album at the 1988 Brit Awards. Album 1987 12 Songs. Nothing Like the Sun. Rock 1987. The Lazarus Heart. Released October 13, Like the Sun Tracklist. Lazarus Heart Lyrics. The title of this album comes from an experience Sting had with a drunk guy that grabbed him by the shoulders in the middle of a street and asked to him: How beautiful is the moon and Sting remembered a verse from Shakespeares 130th Sonet, that said: My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun. And he like the response he gave, and had the title for his next album. Nothing Like the Sun Q&A. Sting released '. Nothing Like the Sun,' his double-platinum second solo album, on October 13, 1987. Never one to play into expectations, Sting began work on. Nothing Like the Sun intending to try something new. No, not jazz. He'd already done that. But not rock, either. I don't give a f-- about rock 'n' roll, Sting told Rolling Stone in 1987, adding that there was no new fuel in rock music. Instead, he'd become enamored with more exotic sounds, blending the overt jazz influences of his 1985 solo debut Dream of the Blue Turtles with African and classical ideas. Nothing Like The Sun - a powerful, often hypnotic album that blends jazz and rock styles into a thoughtful suite of twelve songs about love, politics and the meaning of the individual life - avoids the self-conscious stiffness that marred Stings first solo LP, The Dream of the Blue Turtles. Whereas that album often seemed to be merely the sterile enactment of its fusion-jazz ambitions, Nothing Like the Sun flows naturally. The albums title comes from a sonnet by Shakespeare that begins with the line My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun. This is an album where the only up-tempo track, the only trifle - the cheerfully stiff white-funk We'll Be Together - was added at the insistence of the label because they believed there wasn't a cut on the record that could be pulled as a single, one that would break down the doors to mainstream radio. And they were right, since everything else here is too measured, calm, and deliberately subtle to be immediate including the intentional throwaway, Rock Steady
