Hold That Tiger is a live album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth, recorded at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago on October 14, 1987. It featured songs from the album Sister. It was released on vinyl in 1991, with a CD release in 1998. Apparently, the actual tape of the live recording was sped up to fit vinyl, but was not slowed down again for the CD release. Hold That Tiger is an official bootleg documenting a Sonic Youth live show in Chicago on October 14, 1987. It has the same lo-fi sound as Television's The Blow Up, but lacks the spirit of those performances. Sonic Youth is on safe ground here, not indulging themselves in the guitar freakouts that they frequently showcase during their live sets. Most of the set list from this show comes from Sister and EVOL, while the encore shows Sonic Youth appropriately mauling four songs from the Ramones' first album. Track Listing. Sonic Youth. A gloriously ragged document of a 1987 show in Chicago, Hold That Tiger is a vivid testament to the power and chaos of Sonic Youth live. Thurston Moores sardonic between-song banter contrasts with the ferocity of the bands performances, with the nightmarish White Cross and the burly Death Valley 69 signaling their transition from no-wave guitar abusers to arty garage-punk demolition crew. They close the set with a thrilling trio of Ramones covers, a nod to an earlier era of New York noise. Hold That Tiger Live Sonic Youth.
