Sergei Prokofiev is one of the major composers of the 20th century: a Russian who studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory before making his name as a composer and pianist. He is most famous for his ballet, Romeo and Juliet and his work for orchestra and narrator, Peter and the Wolf. The composer accepted a commission to produce an opera based on The Love for Three Oranges - a satirical, fairytale play by Carlo Gozzi.
