Album

Hemispheres was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and mixed at Trident Studios in London in 1978. It was the last of two albums the band recorded in the U. before returning to Canada. The record explores the political, social economic, and sci-fi themes prevalent on their early work, continuing the saga of Cygnus from A Farewell To Kings. Similar to 2112, Hemispheres features a single, epic song broken into chapters as the first side of the album Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres . The album also features the instrumental, La Villa Strangiato. According to Geddy, the song was base. Hemispheres is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in October 1978 by Anthem Records. After touring to support the band's previous release, A Farewell to Kings, during which the group gained popularity in the UK, Rush started work on its next album. As with the band's previous studio album, Hemispheres was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire and Trident Studios in London with longtime engineer and arranger, Terry Brown. This is certainly one band for whom time does not stand still' Geddy Lee. My Favourite Headache, Lee's first solo album, was released in November 2000 while Rush was on a hiatus due to tragedies in drummer Neil Peart's life. Lee appeared in Broken Social Scene's music video for their 2006 single Fire Eye'd Boy, judging the band while they perform various musical tasks, and in 2006, Lee joined Lifeson's super group the Big Dirty Band, to provide songs accompanying Trailer Park Boys: The Movie. Hemispheres is the sixth studio album by the Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1978. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales. This album continues Rush's trend of using the fantasy and science fiction lyrics written by Neil Peart. Similar to their 1976 release, 2112, Hemispheres contains a single, epic song broken into chapters as the first half of the album Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres while the second half contains two more conventionally-executed tracks. Review: Rushs Hemispheres Reissue Celebrates Bands Prog-Era Peak. Rush's 1978 LP 'Hemispheres' represents the peak of their early prog period. Read our review of a new 40th-anniversary reissue. Fin CostelloRedferns. As Geddy Lee put it in a recent Rolling Stone interview, Rushs Hemispheres signified the end of a thing. That thing was the bands high-prog period, marked by grandiose, album-sidefilling tracks. This phase lasted just three short years but produced some of the greatest-ever examples of the style. Rushs 1978 album is a fan favorite, for it is arguably the most progressive rock influenced of their entire catalog. The entire album consists of intricate arrangements and thought provoking lyricism by Neil Peart. It was the final album written during their 1977-1978 stay in the United Kingdom, and the difficulty that was associated with the albums production led Rush to create much less strenuous arrangements, culminating in their 1980 album Permanent Waves. Starting off with Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres, a continuation of the closing song off their 1977 album A Farewell to Kings , this song screams progressive rock. Also, they seem to run out of room at the end and just kind of smash the last three decades of Rush music into a few pages

Paste of my Amazon review:

The book is certainly quite nice, lots of nice glossy colour photos of the band from all eras and a reasonably comprehensive history of the band. Nice discography and a breakdown of each album at the back too.

Where the package falls down is the DVD's - there is a total of 90 mins of video footage across ALL FOUR disks. In fact, the footage consists of two 45 min documentary programs made in 2005 which are each cut in half so that they can spread it out over 4 disks. Whilst the footage is pretty good, there was absolutely no reason that it could not have been all put on one disk with a proper menu (also missing) and some extras. Instead you load a disk and by the time you've got comfortable you have to switch it for the next. It's blatantly misleading to advertise 4 DVD's when there is barely enough content to fill 1.

That said, for the price it's a nice package. Just be aware of exactly what you are getting for your money.
