These two discs group together works composed for the members of the Arditti Quartet individually and together between 1985 and 1994 by Roger Reynolds, a composer who has lived and taught in California since the early 1970s. In some respects these pieces may be heard as an overarching suite, the two straight quartets, Coconino. a shattered landscape and Visions on the first disc contrasting with the electro-acoustically enhanced Ariadnes Thread, which is itself framed by solo works for violin and cello on the second. His compositions incorporate elements of theater, digital signal processing, dance, video, and real-time computer spatialization, in a signature multidimensionality of engagement.
