Robert John born Robert John Pedrick, Jr. January 3, 1946 is an American singer-songwriter perhaps best known for his 1979 hit single, Sad Eyes, which reached number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. John was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Under the name of Bobby Pedrick, Jr. he first hit the pop chart in 1958 when he was only 12 years old with White Bucks and Saddle Shoes, written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. As the lead singer of Bobby & The Consoles, he had the minor 1963 hit. Robert John's Sad Eyes was a substantial chart-topper in the summer of 1979, taken from the self-titled Robert John album, the slick ballad making noise seven-and-a-half years after his rendition of the Lion Sleeps Tonight went to Number Three. The rest of the album is remarkably different from the melody that brought him back, and though it is all very listenable, it is still dated, '70s disco, somewhat amusing because of the blatant cloning going on. Love Is a Woman sounds like the Bee Gees in 1978 re-creating a 1975 Tavares' tune It. Released 1979. Robert John Tracklist. Sad Eyes Lyrics. About Robert John. Robert John Q&A. Robert John 1979.
