Irving is a fine backup musician although he does not have a very original musical personality. That deficiency is obvious on Midnight Dream, where his own solos are fairly faceless but where Irving sounds most comfortable backing accompanying R&B-ish vocalists and guitarist Andre Lassaile's occasional solos. Robert Irving III, 1953 is an American pianist, composer, arranger and music educator A native of Chicago, Irving was one of a group of young Chicago musicians that in the late '70s and early '80s formed the nucleus of Miles Davis' recording and touring bands.
