This was one of the first albums in which Burrell was presented as a leader. It's characterized by up tempo pieces, all of which were composed by the members of the band. Side A of the LP only included the blues All Day Long described by Dan Morgenstern as A simple but effective structure that controls the performance and keeps it solidly. Knowning Robert Hoods Moveable Parts, I was missing the factor of all the constant little changes happening to the different sounds. All four tracks sounded like they were only looping the same few bars forever. However, these tracks ARE full of variation. But the variation comes in very late, just when you wouldn't expect it anymore. Robert Hood - Untitled . Robert Hood - Untitled. B2 is techno perfection, from loopy wavetable madness in the front-half... into a polysix/jx3p chord-stab thing in the backhalf. the other tracks may be good for your set, too.

Most certainly they're all good for and IN your set, dude ;) However, B2 is the winner on this excellent 12" from Robert Hood.

Nothing personal
At first, this one seemed pretty dull and repetitive to me. Knowning Robert Hoods "Moveable Parts", I was missing the factor of all the constant little changes happening to the different sounds. All four tracks sounded like they were only looping the same few bars forever. However, these tracks ARE full of variation. But the variation comes in very late, just when you wouldn't expect it anymore. The idea works - after hypnotizing the listener for the first half of their playtime, these sparse and raw tracks suddenly start to reveal surprisingly complex and jazzy melodies and moody basslines that make your jaws drop for sure. Four pieces of guaranteed madness on the dancefloor - but only if you use them right!

The B2 is really an excellent track; typical Hood-minimal, and from the half of the track get through to a wonderful melody. Probably one of Hood's best track. But the others... IMHO totally meaningless and empty tracks, just for filling the EP. Even so if You like Rob Hood, worth buy this record, because the B2 is more than amazing!
