Researching the Blues is the sixth album by American rock band Redd Kross, released in 2012 on Merge Records. All tracks are written by Jeff McDonald, except where noted. Redd Kross. Jeff McDonald vocals, guitar. Robert Hecker lead guitar. Steven McDonald bass, backing vocals. Roy McDonald drums. The brothers had a trick up their sleeve, though, and in 2012 they released Researching the Blues, a self-produced album that not only continues their stellar recorded legacy but gives it an electric boost. Not only is it their best-sounding album yet, totally alive and raw, but it contains some of the hookiest songs and most thrilling performances of their almost-35-year career in rock & roll. Not that the brothers are all that old, but it sure sounds like they've tapped into some secret fountain of youth. On Researching the Blues, Redd Kross prove they still have a knack for shifting those component parts into fresh shapes. In just three and a half minutes, Stay Away From Downtown ping-pongs between vocal hooks and sticky guitar leads. Dracula's Daughter cakes on the Byrds-style oohs and aahhs to dreamy effect.
