Cover and all promotion art is done by guitarist Lars Christensen. This Danish outfit continues to kick up a thoroughly Americanized ruckus on Confusion Bay, its second album of futuro-metal. Describing Raunchy's material results in inevitable comparisons to other bands, including In Flames 9 - 5, a slightly dumbed-down Mudvayne Join the Scene, Show Me Your Real Darkness and, more obviously, a warmed-over approximation of Fear Factory's industrialized throb'n'crunch, singer Lars Vognstrup replaced by Kasper Thomsen after the recording of. Raunchy seemed like a great band to check out, seeing as how I'm a big fan of nuclear blast records. Apparently they are not extremely well known. I have to admit, it was partially the album cover that first got me interested in this record, which is good because that will only help sales with an album. Upon listening to this album I realized that their are both upsides and downsides. The music is actually not that bad most of the time, although not very creative. The album Confusion Bay takes on a slightly different sound than later albums. Mostly due to the change in vocalists that occurred following the release of Confusion Bay. The vocals on this album range from harsh raspy growls to well sung, and beautifully harmonized cleans. Raunchy's latest release Confusion Bay is definately a very well made CD that is head and shoulders above a lot of the drivel out there, but it falls a little short of the exceptional quality of their first album Velvet Noise. I guess the reason that Velvet Noise so appealed to me and so many others is that it had a cranked-up kind of Fear Factory-ish sound that was still somehow unique
