Rakoto Frah and his sodina were depicted on the 200 ariary Malagasy banknote in honor of his key role in revitalizing and internationally popularizing the sodina. Malagasy guitarist Solo Razafindrakoto produced Rakoto Frah's Souffles de Vie in 1998, and Rakoto Frah's final album, Chants et danses en Imerina, was released in October 2000. At age ten, he moved to Antananarivo to work as a baker after his parents died and there he played for pleasure. His long career has included a performance for Charles de Gaulle in 1947, other performances throughout Africa and Europe, and a stint with the group Kalaza, with whom he visited the U. in 1986.
