Album

The Return of the 5000 Lb. Man is an album by jazz multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk. These seven tracks are an utter astonishment. Kirk's playing of saxophones, harmonica, flutes, and euphonium is deep, soulful, and even profound in places. This is one that's utterly necessary for fans, and a very fitting intro for the novice. Theme for the Eulipions Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Betty Neals - 9:30. Man was Rahsaan Roland. Man was Rahsaan Roland Kirk's first album for Warner Brothers, recorded before the stroke that impaired him. Kirk is at full creative and musical strength. Artist - Rahsaan Roland Kirk Album - The Return of the 5000 Lb. Man is deceptively modest. It is one of Kirks most intimate works. As was his custom, Kirk chose to record several of his favorite songs, a typically mixed bag of modern hits and jazz classics. The vocal versions of Charles Mingus Goodbye Pork Pie Hat and John Coltranes Giant Steps at first seem audacious, but are in fact deeply reverential rejoinders to two of Kirks most beloved peers. A later RRK lp that I love. Normally I go straight to the B side on this but checking out the A side now but it's okay. Dorn still on production.
Side B he does Goodbye Pork Pie Hat and it is undeniable. I remember playing this at work and people asking what this was after Goodbye is done. It's hard to explain why the song is so great but I can't ever listen to the Mingus version without thinking of RRK singing over it. Magic
