Knives Out is a song by the English rock band Radiohead. It was the second single released from Radiohead's fifth album, Amnesiac 2001, and features guitars influenced by the Smiths. It reached number 13 on the UK Singles Chart and number one on the Canadian Singles Chart. According to Drowned in Sound, Knives Out is the most conventional song on Amnesiac. The composition features electric and acoustic guitars, complemented by singer Thom Yorke's vocals. It appears on Radiohead's 2001 album Amnesiac, recorded during the same sessions as the previous album Kid A. It was also released as the second Amnesiac single, receiving more radio airplay than the band's other songs of the period. Knives Out was later covered by The Flaming Lips, on their 2003 EP, Fight Test EP. The song was also covered by classical pianist Christopher O'Riley on his album True Love Waits, and by jazz pianistbandleader Brad Mehldau on his album, Day is Done 2006. Lead singer Thom Yorke: Knives Out is not exactly cruelty. Let's rather say that to express some feelings, I can't help but use some violent vocabulary. Knives Out' was inspired by several different situations. I think the important thing is not that it sounds violent but rather that I try to express specific moments that I have experienced in my life: I transcribe them again, especially those I've been through in the music business. It doesn't hurt many people when someone disappears, they can always take advantage of what remains. Knives Out is the sixth song off of Amnesiac. According to a studio diary kept by O'Brien, Knives Out took 373 days to record, a ridiculously long gestation period for any song.
