Antifogmatic is the second album by Punch Brothers. The album was released June 15, 2010. The Paducah Sun reported, on February 25, 2010, that the album contains ten songs: 'The new music is a real honest collaboration,' Thile said. It is the first album to feature bass player Paul Kowert, who joined the band in late 2008 after the departure of Greg Garrison. Thile said the 10 songs are shorter and more melodic with no leading man. The album was produced by Jon Brion. Punch Brothers also released a deluxe version of Antifogmatic which contains a five-song EP All Of This Is True and. Punch is the debut album by Punch Brothers. It was released by Nonesuch Records on February 26, 2008. The centerpiece of the album is mandolinist Chris Thile's ambitious four movement suite, The Blind Leaving the Blind. Thile says the piece was written in part to deal with his divorce of 2004. It was composed over the course of a year and a half using Finale composition software. About 30 of the composition involves some improvisation, like a jazz lead sheet or a written out fiddle tune. Punch Brothers. Released 2010. Antifogmatic Tracklist. You Are Lyrics. Antifogmatic is an old term for a bracing beverage, generally rum or whiskey, that a person would have before going out to work in rough weather to stave off any ill effects. This batch of tunes could be used in much the same way, and includes some characters who would probably benefit mightily, if temporarily, from a good antifogmatic. Antifogmatic Q&A. Punch Brothers' second album showcases the collaborative power of this virtuosic, genre-blurring combo. Antifogmatic brims with color, wit, flash and tenderness, says the Wall Street Journal, all conveyed with remarkable musicianship and high spirits. The quintet honed these songs during a residency at New York's The Living Room, then recorded them live at LA's Ocean Way studio with producer Jon Brion. Punch Brothers, named after a Mark Twain short story Punch, Brothers, Punch are comprised of Mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile, guitar player Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjo player Noam Pikelny, and fiddler Gabe Witcher. Rolling Stone noted that the quintet seamlessly blend bluegrass, roots, rock, pop, jazz, and classical to create a unique, contemporary sound. A second album by the drumless ensemble which does for bluegrass what Monteverdi did for Renaissance polyphony, leading to an undiscovered dimension in which new kinds of thoughts might be expressed. It is by no means a generic listen and that's why it's so good. Chris Thile's singing is neither as virtuosic nor as charismatic as his mandolin playing, but the songs are consistently intriguing in their crazily formalist arrangements. While its previous album, Punch, took that sophistication to a level bordering on esotericism, the new Antifogmatic is as warm and welcoming as the bracing 19th-century drink that gave it its name.
