He was known for his gruff voice and critical assessment of the Jamaican government. His track Heavy Manners used lyrics against measures initiated towards violent crime. He was born Michael James Williams in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Williams' first job in the music industry was as a deejay on the Sir Mike the Musical Dragon sound system, also working as a security guard at Joe Gibbs' studio, and later. While the great Prince Far I, dean of the conscious DJs and owner of the most distinctive voice in reggae music, made many great albums over the course of his relatively brief recording career, few of them carry as much of an emotional and spiritual wallop as this one. I hadn't listened to the Jamaican Heroes album all that much and didn't hold it in much regard. until I listened to it together with the dub versions from Cry Tuff Dub Encounter III, and new and exciting layers of sound emerged. The almost-wacky experimental effects courtesy of Steve Beresford, Adrian Sherwood and the Dub Syndicate band take the music to creative new heights, reaching levels of blissful ambience and almost transcendental qualities at times. Man, I loved Jamaican Heroes when I first heard it in the 80s And if truth be told, I love everything by Prince Far I This a crucial mix for a fan like I Davy Diamond. Jamaican Heroes Prince Far I.
