"When the Whitrigg Colliery Pipe Band was formed over seventy years ago, the founder members could have had no idea just how popular and internationally famous the band was to become.

Under the direction of P.M. J.A. Barnes, the band attained Grade I status in the sixties and has progressed to become one of the most respected outfits in the premier grade.

Over the years, the bands name changed to Polkemmet Colliery and now as a result of very generous sponsorship by Grorud Scotland, the band is now known worldwide as Polkemmet Grorud.

Now under the direction of P.M. David Barnes and encouraged by the brilliant musicianship of D.M. James King, the band is moving ahead into what all the members hope will be the bands most successful era."
