It was their first major label album and it sold just over 60,000 copies in the US, nearly twice as much as their next album Deviant, which sold 33,000 copies. The album's name comes from the band's domain name - a relative novelty at the time of the release. Carter, and bassist and vocalist Mark Clayden. The band was initially known for the early industrial metal sound with downtuned guitars and the use of drum machines and being cited as one of the originators of the genre along with Godflesh. With later albums the music became more melodic and punk-influenced, and the band eventually gained attention with their 1998. Even when Pitchshifter slows down the beats, as on . perhaps the best song on the album - there is an unbridled fury that shoots through like a train. Pitchshifter is only getting better.
