The song Wolves was used in the 2011 film Margin Call, starring Kevin Spacey and Jeremy Irons. On his latest album under the Phosphorescent guise, Mathew Houck continues his work with reflective folk music given a somewhat ethereal bent. If not as gone as some of the performers in the field in recent years who seem to balance between stability and the lack thereof, Houck beats the heck out of so many who seem to only want to become the new Dan Fogelberg sometimes with Tim Weisberg and sometimes without. Dead Oceans. And Pride continues that tradition on all fronts. First, the cover photo is difficult not to perceive as an homage to Oldham's Days in the Wake, itself a Jandek homage. And the lion theme, even if it's based on Houck's hair-encircled face: consult Oldham's The Lion Lair since citing the Sage Francis team-up Sea Lion would be rash. Indie Rock Folk-Rock.
