Deep End Live is an album containing excerpts of the live performance by Pete Townshend's Deep End band, at the Brixton Academy in London, England on 12 November 1985. In addition to Townshend, the band included Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Simon Phillips, keyboardist John Rabbit Bundrick, percussionist Jody Linscott, harmonica player Peter Hope Evans, and the horn section. The album was originally released in the U. in August 1986 by Atco Records. Pete Townshend. Deep End was a short-lived supergroup founded by guitarist Pete Townshend of The Who and featuring David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. The group also included drummer Simon Phillips, bassist Chucho Merchan, percussionist Townshend and the Deep End Band played live for two benefit outings - November 1 and 2, 1985 at the Brixton Academy - to help support Townshend's own Double O' Charities. The performances are excerpted here and were used in a made-for-home-video, also called Pete Townshend's Deep End Live. Initially, a promotional 12 EP of the show was released to AOR radio stations in August of 1986. However, significant interest in the project would ultimately yield a 10-song LP which was issued to retail a few months later. There was a booklet sized single sheet mail order offer for the video included with this first release. The mail order expired May 30, 1987. The CD and paper artwork are the same on this version.
