Over the first few listens, the intro reminded me of Alien Community, which I hadn't listened to in many years, but both AC 1 & 2 were favorites way back when. Elektronik has a deep otherworldly quality, like AC, alienating and gorgeous at the same time, the spacey sliding metallic sounds are really fantastic I'm left wondering what the DTS mix will sound like when I finally get to hear it. 67 tracks67. I think this is a strong Fax album for several reasons. Whereas AC was mostly wistful and melancholic with its handling of melodies, those on Elektonik are more forward and almost Kraftwerkian to me at times, this is good as I am a long time fan of KW. A few selective melodic nodes interlock with the other sounds and float for a bit, I like it! Another reason has to do with the way this album happened: between Namlook, and to use a music market characterization, a 'relative unknown' in the ambient techno community. I'm talking generally as a consumer of electronic music here, because Material Object has been making music for years and has a few other releases out. Third reason is the long-duration format this release is in. This was how many of the early good sub label favorites materialized. Oh, who's Namlook pairing up with this time? I used to think back when i was hunting all the earlier Fax releases down ... I really missed that experience of discovering new artists through Pete's collabs. I know there are other recent faxes that occasionally go this route, but Elektronik sounds like a real jam, complete with its various phases and shifts in activity.. movements and parts. This is light years beyond the 90s sub label releases in sound quality though.. I wonder if Elektronik II happens, will it also be long-form? In any case, this one is solid. Track 6 has got a sweet eno -esque melody going on, brilliant... the album is dark and introspective to a nearly paranoid level earlier on before opening up throughout 70+ minutes where toward the end an uplifting chorus of synths… lights & laserbeams shining skyward. Or are those spotlights from the mothership??

So what did you think of the 5.1 mix? I'm curious to know which mix you prefer.

A mind bending, alien abstract, mind calming, and even somewhere in-between listen into modern forward thinking electronic music. Experimental the album certainly is with its formula that weaves metallic/broken-melodic/mish-mash IDM-Techno along with electro Abstract and spacey synth Ambient. There are sounds, atmospheres, and moments that can bring memories of previous FAX albums such as Alien Community, Music For Ballet, Monolith, Miles Apart, Jet Chamber, and even From Within (esp on trk 6). The album plays with a live jam feel with a raw deep and experimental feel with its various, but not one dominant, use of different electronic genres. The mood of the album is mixture of both dark and uplifting moods that deliver 'a light at the end of the tunnel' feel to the listener as this album will certainly take you into a unique electronic music world that plays without boundaries!
