Patrick Hawes born 1958 is a British composer, conductor, organist and pianist. Born in Lincolnshire, he studied music as an organ scholar at St Chad's College, University of Durham before working as a teacher of music and English, firstly at Pangbourne College 19811990 then as Composer in Residence for Charterhouse School 19901997. His first major work, the oratorio The Wedding at Cana, was first performed by the Pangbourne College Choral Society in 1990. One of the highlights of the work is. Patrick Hawes is an English composer who has made his mark as a torchbearer of the English musical tradition. He is best known for writing the Highgrove Suite for HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, for being Composerin- Residence at the UKs largest biggest classical music station, Classic FM, and for the Number One album Angel. Among others, he has written for Voces8, the Choir of New College Oxford, Julian Lloyd Webber, and Hayley Westenra on albums that have all reached Number One in the classical charts.
