Travels is the Pat Metheny Group's first live album, released in 1983. It won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance. The album consists of live material recorded in July, October, and November 1982, in Philadelphia, Dallas, Sacramento, Hartford, and Nacogdoches Texas. The Group for this album consisted of Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Steve Rodby, Dan Gottlieb, and guest Nana Vasconcelos. 58: - Pat Metheny. Methenys guitar chops hadnt yet reached the level of speed and clarity he would soon display on First Circle and Still Life Talking. But the Roland synth guitar solos on Extradition , Song for Bilbao and the opening Are You Going With Me are landmarks nonetheless. The plaintive ballads Goodbye , Farmers Trust and Travels are melodic gold, as are the breezy eclectic numbers Straight on Red and The Fields the Sky. The album consists of two CDs worth of live material recorded in July, October and November 1982, at Philadelphia, Dallas, Sacramento, Hartford and Nacogdoches. Along with Pat Metheny, the album features Lyle Mays, Steve Rodby, Dan Gottlieb and the influence of special guest Nana Vasconcelos is noticeably evident on the group's music.
