The title tune 8081 was written for Dewey Redman, whom Metheny met while touring with Gary Burtons band in the early 70s, sometimes sharing the bill with Redman who was playing with Keith Jarretts American quartet. Yet Metheny's off-kilter wandering on solo electric guitar is a comfortable fit for the post-bop rhythmic crosscurrents of this music. Dejohnette impeccable. Michael Brecker tenor saxophone on tracks I-1, 2 II-2 III-1, 2 IV-1. 44 listeners. Get album. From the disbanded Keith Jarrett American quartet came bassist Charlie Haden and tenor Dewey Redman - who alternates with and occasionally plays alongside tenor Michael Brecker - and Jack DeJohnette provides more combustible drumming than Metheny had ever experienced on record before. Yet Metheny's off-kilter wandering on solo electric guitar is a comfortable fit for the post-bop rhythmic crosscurrents of this music. Rejoicing looks closely at Colemans group dynamics and three of his tunes though its Horace Silvers Lonely Woman, not Colemans, that opens the album. Featured sellers. That quartet, also including Charlie Haden on bass and Paul Motian on drums, was one of the best jazz combos of the 70s and left a deep impression on Metheny, who recalled Redmans peculiar practicing methods: Keith would write pieces for Dewey that were very difficult and Dewey would figure out a way to get through thos. Pat Metheny Pat Metheny 8081 German 2-LP vinyl set. Year1980. Cette album souffre d'un mauvais transfert du numérique au vinyle. And perhaps the highlight of the recording is the intricate yet effortless drumming of Jack DeJohnette. 126 listeners. Pat Metheny : toujours virtuose. in fall 1980 with a band including Redman, Haden, and Paul Motian. Donc ce n'est pas world music, c'est plutôt du jazz d'aujourd'hui: et on sent quand même une certaine tension dans les harmonies. Mais quand même, je m'étonne que ce bon disque ne soit pas plus médiatisé. One remarkable track is Open, a group improvisation that finds DeJohnette shaping the track's direction with a pushing solo and Metheny and the saxes emerging at the end. Grosse déception pr moi car je possèdais cette album en première édition. 8081 is Methenys musical bar mitzvah: a chance to step up and be counted among the men of the congregation. New items. It stands out throughout the recordings, even prompting one of the artists to exclaim at the tail-end of the recording session of one of their songs, Whooooieee, man, Jack DeJohnette You will treasure this album forever -CD Universe. The three mesh perfectly on Colemans Tears Inside, Humpty Dumpty, and Rejoicing, with Metheny generating long lines of melody over sprung rhythms. Guitarist Pat Metheny gets to play with the big boys on this spirited double album. While everyone but Brecker had already traveled to the furthest reaches of improvised jazz, they all come to heel excepting the group improvised Open for that classic Metheny blend of knotty jazz and pastoral folk music. Metheny joins bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Billy Higgins, one of Ornette Colemans finest rhythm pairings, for this recording.
