The album was the result of an audiovisual research project funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. Hands also released an accompanying 60 minute video on VHS tape. Like the Surface 2000 and Other Voices 2001 12s, this album was inspired by the Canadian school of acoustic ecology, which studies the relationship between living things and their environment through sound.
