Album 1982 12 Songs. Pirates Choice. Orchestra Baobab. Worldwide 1 from the album 'Pirate's Choice: The Legendary 1982 Sessions' Disc One by the group Orchestra Baobab. The band is Senegalese Afro-Cuban, free to Orchestra Baobab Pirates Choice Utrus Horas, Coumba and more. 12 tracks 94:21. It's a strong album but positively sedate compared to the wild and woolly Bamba -guess it's a question of whether you prefer your African pop looking back to faithfully reflect its early roots or charging forward in new directions. Our writers are picking their favourite albums. Here, Caspar Llewellyn Smith gets carried away by a magical collision of Cuban and African sounds. It could feel lame to start any paean to a favourite record with a claim for its significance it makes it sound dry, academic, removed from the emotions it engages. This was an album recorded in 1982, but only released in the UK seven years later, when it helped kickstart a new-found fascination amon. This item:Pirates Choice by Orchestra Baobab Audio CD . Only 1 left in stock - order soon. PIRATES CHOICE became a Holy Grail to lovers of world music, who were entranced by its shuffling rumba rhythms and delicate instrumental virtuosity. To celebrate the band's recent reunion for a UK tour, World Circuit remastered the original 1989 release - never before issued here - and added a second CD of material from the same sessions. First heard Specialist in All Styles and was in love- that album is funky, lively and fresh. I decided to dive in for more and while I think there is a different feeling from this album, it is also great. In October 2007, Orchestra Baobab released the album Made in Dakar on World Circuit to critical acclaim. The album contains new recordings of some of their classic songs such as Pape Ndiaye and Nijaay. In May 2009, Syllart released La Belle Époque, a compilation of the band's 1970s recordings, including several previously unreleased songs.
