Nilüfer Yanya is an English singer, songwriter, composer and musician. The daughter of two visual artists, Yanya grew up in Chelsea, London. Her mother is of Irish and Barbadian heritage and her father is Turkish. Growing up with her father's Turkish music and her mother's classical music playing at home, she soon gravitated to guitar rock and learned how to play the instrument at age 12. Informally starting her musical career with demos uploaded to SoundCloud in 2014, she turned down an offer to join. Nilüfer Yanya. Debut album, Miss Universe, out 22 March. London pop prodigy Nilüfer Yanya has accomplished a lot, quickly. The classically trained pianist, who is in her early twenties, released her Small Crimes EP in 2016, then followed it with the Plant Feed EP the next year. Yanya taught herself guitar. Yanya taught herself guitar in her early teens after being exposed to pop music for the first time shes used the instrument as a thread through her ever-shifting musical sensibilities, inserting synths and island rhythms to lighten her deep, grounded vocals.
