New Grass Revival was an American progressive bluegrass band founded in 1971, and composed of Sam Bush, Courtney Johnson, Ebo Walker, Curtis Burch, Butch Robins, John Cowan, Béla Fleck and Pat Flynn. They were active between 1971 and 1989, releasing more than twenty albums as well as six singles. Their highest-charting single is Callin' Baton Rouge, which peaked at No. 37 on the U. country charts in 1989 and was a Top 5 country hit for Garth Brooks five years later. This album was also released under the titles, The Arrival of the New Grass Revival and Today's Bluegrass. The New Grass Revival's debut album was actually titled simply New Grass Revival, the same title as their eighth album in 1986. The was the only NGR album to feature bassist Harry Ebo Walker Shelor. New Grass Revival was a progressive bluegrass band from 1971 to 1989. The founding members were Sam Bush mandolin, fiddle, guitar, Courtney Johnson banjo, guitar, Ebo Walker Harry L. Shelor Jr. October 19, 1941 upright bass and Curtis Burch guitar, Dobro, all from Louisville and western Kentucky, except Burch who was from Brunswick, Georgia. Perhaps the intensity of the band's approach, bluegrass with a rock & roll attitude, frightened the old guard at the time. Today, it just sounds like great acoustic music.
