After all, Weld was useful since it appeared ten years after the release of Live Rust, Young & Crazy Horse's first double live album, and it captured them at their peak. Year of the Horse, however, appeared merely five years after Weld, and in between those two records, Young had only released two albums' worth of material that suited these high-voltage, improvised performances. At one point, the working title for the new Neil Young and Crazy Horse album was Pink Moon. It describes the eleven days the band spent in April, hunkered down in a studio at an elevation of 9,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains, recording their first new record in seven years. Oxygen tanks were involved. But Colorado, the title Young eventually settled on, is more fitting for the record. Since 1975s Zuma, Sampedro has backed Youngs guitar with blistering riffs that only Lukas Nelson of Promise of the Real has been close to emulating. But Nils Lofgren, who has played with Young sporadically since 1970, fills that void. Live, Live Album. Neil Young Crazy Horse Format: Audio CD. Year of the Horse Live. Worthwhile for any NY & Crazy Horse fan looking for live performances. Hardly any overlap with Live Rust, or Weld I checked, track by track. Also, it's not a soundtrack album - in fact, almost every CD track is in addition to the songs in the Year of the Horse movie, DVD strange but true. Year of the Horse is a solid rocker from start to finish, which is just what I want from Neil Young and Crazy Horse. It's cheap and it delivers in spades. Highly recommended .
