My Threnody was born in 1996 under the name "Angelical Grief" when J. Britto, drummer / lead singer of the Doom Metal band from Silent Cry left the band. Britto moved to Boston, US where he continued writing and writing, though with no intention of recording or releasing any material that took shape.
In 1999, things took a different turn when Jeff recorded a few songs on a cassette tape and sent it to his former bandmates. With a good return from his friends, Jeff decided to take the project seriously, formally named it "Angelical Grief" and began recording the material he intended to release as the project's first CD.

During the time Jeff was recording the album, he continued writing new material and a few months later, with the album recorded, Jeff decided not to publish it, judging it to be weak compared to the new compositions that were forming. The songs that were recorded at that time remain unpublished.

In 2000 "Angelical Grief" became "My Threnody" and plans for a future first album of the project were abandoned due to family and lack of time.

Now in 2001 Jeff spent the first months of the year recording a few selected tracks to release in the format of a Demo Tape, and in September of that same year the first and only official Demo Tape titled "Songs for the Sorrowful Souls" was released. four songs including the cover "To Walk the Infernal Fields" by the legendary Black Metal Dark Throne masters. Very few copies of this demo have been produced and distributed.

Now with the time and means to work at home, in January 2002, the first album began to take shape, and after nine months of work the album "An Angel and the Eternal Silence" was released by Avernus Records. Given Britto's expectations for the release, the album received surprisingly positive comments and reviews from magazines and webzines around the world.

In January 2003 Britto began composing new songs for a possible new work. In June of that same year he would start recording what would only be more than a year later, My Threnody's second album containing nine unreleased tracks and the demo version of the song "As the Autumn Comes ..." from the 2002 album. The new album was named "The Dawn of Understanding".
