Listen free to Muneshine Opportunity Knocks Welcome. Intro, Overdrive and more. 14 tracks 56:07. First discovered for his production work on Lightheadeds Pure Thoughts LP, Muneshine has successfully built a strong following domestically and overseas. Known both for his production and emceeing, he has collaborated with artists such as: Pete Rock, Lord Finesse, DJ Spinna, Little Brother, Punchline Wordsworth, Louis Logic, Grap Luva and many more. This album was released only in Japan, but through international distributors it can be found worldwide. Opportunity Knocks is a 1990 comedy film starring Dana Carvey. It was directed by Donald Petrie. Con men Eddie Farrell and Lou Pesquino need cash fast and pretend to be repair men sent to fix a gas leak. The con fails, but they escape. Eddie and Lou find an empty house that they decide to burglarize. When they learn from a message on the answering machine that the owner is out of the country and the man who was going to house-sit can't make it, they spend the night. Surreal Opportunity Knocks was my first attempt at a 'solo' album. Before this, I had never seriously tried to write a song, explore a lyrical concept, or anything like that. I had previously produced an album called 'A Vision And A Plan' with Emilio Rojas at the time, Sycorax One, then Raks One under the group name, Phocus. We put that album out with HandcutsUniversal Records Japan in 2004, to overwhelming support and acclaim. Handcuts asked me to do a solo album to follow up the success of Phocus, and I decided to give it a shot. This debut album is nothing short of incredible. Muneshine has picked beatsmiths that perfectly suit his style and flow. M-Phazes, Illmind, Saint, Presto, Spinna and Pete Rock all contribute brilliantly to this release, as do the supporting cast of emcees, most notably Raks One (Emilio Rojas) and Supastition. Muneshine's gruff delivery is also complemented greatly by the boom-bap sound of all the producers. The album is extremely cohesive as a whole, no doubt due to the familiarity of the Wax Reform members with each other. It's very hard to pick a favourite here, as most of the tracks are gems, but I would have to go with "Overdrive", "The Sun Goes Down", and "Imagine That". The latter contains a duo with none other than Pete Rock, who blessed Mune with one of his signature beats, and contains refreshing subject matter. The only gripe I have with the LP is the "Aight...Chill (Interlude)", which breaks up the cohesiveness of the album with almost 7 minutes of phone skits, however, it barely detracts from this spectacular effort. Also, the fact that the LP is packaged with an instrumental disc of all the tracks is a treat. If you see this album, buy it. You won't be disappointed. I was lucky to find a copy at Play de Record in Toronto.
5 out of 5.
