Rising also known as Rainbow Rising is the second studio album by the BritishAmerican rock band Rainbow, released in 1976. In issue 4 of Kerrang magazine cover-dated October 1981, Rising was voted the greatest heavy metal album of all time. Band leader Ritchie Blackmore retained only Ronnie James Dio from the previous album line-up, and recruited drummer Cozy Powell, bassist Jimmy Bain and keyboard player. Rainbow are an English-American hard rock band originally from Hertford, Hertfordshire. Formed in February 1975 by then-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, the original lineup of the group also included former Elf members Ronnie James Dio vocals, Craig Gruber bass, Gary Driscoll drums and Micky Lee Soule keyboards, who recorded and released the self-titled album Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow that year. After leaving Deep Purple, Blackmore replaced Gruber, Driscoll and Soule in September.
