Under the direction of fiddler and Lost Bayou Rambler co-founder Louis Michot, the Melody Makers reinvigorate historic compositions and introduce sublime new melodies, all while evoking soundscapes inspired by a time when drums and amps first electrified. The group issues its debut LP, Blood Moon, September 28 in digital and CD format and on vinyl in November via Sinking City Records. Joining Michot in this endeavor are guests Colby Leger accordion, Ashlee Michot triangle and Bad Chad on percussion. The proper group is rounded out by Michot's fellow Ramblers Bryan Webre bass and drum pad and Kirkland Middleton drums and drum pad. Legendary guitarist Mark Bingham joins in as well. Recorded s Melody Makers on its debut album, Blood Moon, looked back to early 20th century, fiddle-driven Cajun music for inspiration and then pushed straight into the future. The band, led by Lost Bayou Ramblers Louis Michot, rooted songs like Two-Step de Ste Marie and La Lune Este Croche in recognizable folk traditions, then added layers of reverb, effects and electronic drums. Dans le Pins, the Melody Makers interpretation of the standard In the Pines, is a mournful waltz full of atmosphere driven by production. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers were a Jamaican reggae family group whose line-up consisted of the children of musicians, Bob Marley and Rita Marley, which includes lead singer Ziggy Marley with Sharon Marley, Cedella Marley, and Stephen Marley. Formed in 1979 in Brooklyn, New York, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers members began their musical endeavors in their pre-teens under the name The Melody Makers.
