The London Sinfonietta on this recording also do a superb rendition of Oiseaux Exotiques which as one may guess translates as exotic birds which is very difficult to find on Messiaen recordings elsewhere, yet is certainly very much a part of his canon. All in all, the London Sinfonietta and Paul Crossley do a superb, stark performance of the recordings, which manages to show how Messiaen made so many of his predecessors look pompous and emotionless in comparison. He is currently Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London 2008-2017, Conductor Laureate of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Composer-In-Residence at the New York Philharmonic. He studied horn and composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and conducting with Jorma Panula.
