McKinley Mitchell December 25, 1934 January 18, 1986 was an American Chicago-based blues and rhythm and blues singer, who started out performing gospel music. His first recorded single was for Boxer Records around 1959. His big break came with his 1962 record, The Town I Live In, which became a national R&B hit on the One-derful label in Chicago. A very strange record, especially for 1978. The LP starts off horribly with a spacey midtempo 6/8 MOR blues, a shuffles blues cover of the Corvells' 'He's So Fine,' a boring 6.8 ballad, then reaches for the stars with the side-click I-VI ballad 'Same Old Dream.' It almost reaches its mark. The side closes with a boring backbeat blues shuffle with dope guitar.

Side 2 starts off badly too, with a midtempo wanna-B.B. minor blues and a truly banal cover of B. Darin's 'Dream Lover,' then lurches into greatness with 'The End of the Rainbow,' a 6/8 ballad w/strings and a glorious vocal. 'Mr. Music Man' is a so-so I-VI shuffle, and the strange soul/rockabilly one-chorder 'Follow the Wind' ends it on a relatively high note.

Fans will find something to love, newcomers should look to his earlier singles.
