Miss America is an album by Mary Margaret O'Hara, released in 1988. It is O'Hara's only full-length studio album released to date. All of her other releases have been EPs, soundtrack albums or collaborations with other artists. Cowboy Junkies covered You Will Be Loved Again on their 1990 album The Caution Horses. In 2009, the Art of Time Ensemble featuring Sarah Slean recorded a version of To Cry About for their album Black Flowers. All songs written and arranged by Mary Margaret O'Hara. Originally recorded in 1984 and not released until 1988, Miss America still sounds light years ahead of its time: Mary Margaret O'Hara is a force of nature, a remarkable singer and composer whose crystal-clear soprano acrobatics and hypnotic songs defy accepted conventions. Miss America stubbornly emerged in 1988, named because Mary Margaret OHara thought the record was so much unlike what those two words together said. The Canadian singer had been made to feel irrational for pursuing her. Her story is familiar in many ways: a powerful label discovering a young female talent, capturing it, then attempting to quash her idiosyncratic style, repeatedly sending her back to the drawing board in search of a hit.
