Starting out in the mid 90s as Future Loop Foundation, Mark Barrott went on to conquer the balearic underground with his legendary imprint International Feel. In recent times it's his own productions that have won the plaudits, especially his 'Sketches From An Island' projects. Home is Where You Are. Follow up album to the first Sketches from an Island LP that came out back in 2014. International Feel boss Mark Barrott returns with nine new tracks of polyrhythmic new school Balearic, and just in time for the heart of summer too. Slide guitar, synth melodies, field recordings and soft percussion gel together to create a personable soundtrack to Mr. Barrotts daily wanderings over on the cosmic island I am also telling stories of everyday life in Ibiza, soundtracking my life here through local field recordings, dusty synths, some African percussion and a bit of slide guitar. Sketches from an Island. Mark Barrott. 2 tracks . Sketches from an Island 2 is the second studio album of British producer Mark Barrott, released on 1 July 2016 by the International Feel label. The record is a follow-up to Sketches from an Island 2014, a record based on Barrott's experiences living in Ibiza. Sketches from an Island 2 is a balearic downtempo album with the same concept, and was also produced by Barrott with the same equipment used for making Sketches from an Island. Mark Barrott has spent most of the last five years working in the shadows. Now Barrott returns under his own name with the Sketches From An Island LP. Rearranging the two EPs to better suit the format and adding a new finale, Barrott's crafted the kind of heat-stroke Balearic that might have been pulled from the sands at any point over the last 40 years of the genre's development. Sketches From An Island exudes a quiet grace throughout its 50-minute runtime that evokes the soft cerulean glow of Ibiza, where Barrott's made his home. There are little bits to shake the hips and loosen up the muscles, like the polyester boogie of opener Baby Come Hom. Sketches From An Island 2 concerns itself with the rhythms of daily island life, tapping into a more relaxed mood. That much is obvious from the track titles: Over At Dieter's Place, Driving To Cap Negret, Brunch With Suki-there's an everyday, almost mundane inspiration here. Sketches From An Island 2 has an easygoing quality that might come from living on an island many consider to be paradise. On passages like the mallet and string section of Over At Dieter's Place, Barrott's sound touches not only on classic Balearic but also the lineage of new wave, relaxation and private press music that's gotten popular recently
