Schoonderwoerd plays a copy of a Vienna pianoforte of Anton Walter 1800 made by Paul Poletti & Gerard Truinman 1996. Booklet and CD are stored in a 6-panel foldout fully laminated digipak. This disc, covering Beethoven's first two piano concertos, is the last of a series of three Beethoven concerto discs by historical pianist Arthur Schoonderwoerd, playing an 1800 Walter fortepiano and accompanied by the small ensemble Cristofori. The ensemble basically involves one instrument per part. The other booklets contain more elaborate justifications for this procedure, but here the only evidence given involves the cover pages of the original publications of the concertos, which refer to the instruments in the singular. The small, period instrument orchestra consisting of 2 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, a double bass, 1 or 2 flutes depending on the concerto, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani and Schoonderwoerd's own six-octave fortepiano from 1807-1810 by Johann Fritz give the performances a tight, big and balanced sound that no modern orchestra & piano combination.
