The present LP was released in 1961, while its companion album, entitled The Great Reunion, was put on the market in 1963. The Jazz Vogue reissue in this Master Release is mis-titled The Great Reunion actually it has the same tracks as Recording Together For The First Time. Elenco tracce. It's a reissue of the two Roulette albums Together For The First Time track 110 and The Great Reunion track 1117 from 1961. These two albums have later resurfaced as a Roulette double-LP entitled The Duke EllingtonLouis Armstrong Years and in 1990 as a remastered CD called Together for the First TimeThe Great Reunion. Louis Armstrong, not knowing his actual birth date and unabashedly proud of his native country, asserted that he was born on July 4, 1900. A baptismal certificate discovered years after that assertion shows Armstrong's birth date to be August 4, 1901. We may be celebrating the Pops centennial a year early. Whatever the coincidence or lack thereof, jazz listeners were fortunate when Armstrong's and Ellington's paths crossed in an RCA Victor recording studio in 1961, thanks to producer Bob Thiele's influence. And jazz listeners are doubly fortunate that devoted jazz re-issue producer Michael Cuscuna found the out-takes from those sessions.
