Loreena Isabel Irene McKennitt, CM OM born February 17, 1957 in Morden, Manitoba, Canada is a Canadian musician, composer, harpist, accordionist, and pianist who writes, records and performs world music with Celtic and Middle Eastern themes. She is self-managed, self-produced and head of her own record label - Quinlan Road. Loreena McKennitt's primary instrument is the harp, but her primary technique is to take a traditional folk song and supersize it with strings, modern rhythms, and lush orchestration. It's a style that works ideally with this material. This is, in short, my favorite ChristmasWinter album ever. McKennitt's vocals on this are beautiful, ethereal, haunting, absolutely perfect.
