14 Shots to the Dome is the fifth studio album by American hip hop recording artist LL Cool J, released by Def Jam Records in the US on March 30, 1993. It is his first album following the hugely successful Mama Said Knock You Out 1990. Unlike that release, which saw him have success on his own terms, 14 Shots sees LL adopting the sound of his West Coast gangsta rap contemporaries, especially that of Ice Cube and Cypress Hill. Many fans saw this as a jarring departure, and the album met mixed. 14 Shots To The Dome - LL Cool J. Track Listing. So his fifth album, 14 Shots to the Dome, wont surprise. If youve heard him before, you know L. because the man who once called himself the future of the funk has been trapped by his past. The triple-platinum success of his last album, Mama Said Knock You Out 1990, must have persuaded L. to recycle. For instance, the mildly autobiographical brag-laden power jams Aint No Stoppin This and How Im Comin, both among 14s best songs, recall the single Mama Said Knock You Out, as L. flexes his muscles and KOs his competition and critics. Following the success of Mama Said Knock You Out, LL released 14 Shots to the Dome on March 30, 1993 through Def JamColumbia Records. LL re-connected with Mama producer Marley Marl, and he also re-connected with Bobby Bobcat Ervin, who produced LLs second album Bigger and Deffer.
