I will be posting videos, mp3s and printed music of some of my works. But first some back story. Our 2nd season on ABC was cut to a 30-minute program because Lawrence Welk found out that was going to broadcast our show in color along with The Hollywood Palace. In those early days not all studios were equipped to tape in living color and there was only room for 2 shows on that one stage. The More I See You - Lex De Azevedo. Lex De Azevedo and Jim Davis, OUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC, Embryo Records ER 2046. Lp shows copyright date on back cover c. 1983. This is about the last vinyl Lp on Lex De Azevedo's SoCal (Los Angeles or Burbank?) Embryo Mormon music label (ER 2058 2 Lp set was CHARLY, A LOVE SONG, about June, 1984).

The Lp is a showcase of soft pop (soft rock?) LDS songs, showing penned by Lex De Azevedo (music; plays piano on these tracks, too) and Jim Davis (word guy). Vocals on the Lp feature various singers; the Lp puts across that it's a kind of "various artists" album, cast more or less in the style of pre-synth pop CCM about the time Amy Grant transitioned from AGE TO AGE to STRAIGHT AHEAD--a lot more Carpenters, Lettermen, and Paul Williams vibe than soft '80s dance music. Mormon CCM never quite caught on in the '80s.

Bob Engemann from the Lettermen is a featured male vocalist on several of these tracks. Two of Lex's daughters are listed in the credits, as well. Julie De Azevedo has several pop CDs out through local Mormon bookstores' distribution.

Although Utah thrift shops, especially the church owned Deseret Industries, record racks are loaded with Embryo titles, the label seems to have peaked about 1980 and by 1983-84 was fading fast on vinyl Lp. Embryo probably transitioned to mostly cassette releases/sales by the mid-'80s, but cassettes don't tend to survive and get donated into thrift shop bins in any kind of numbers like the vinyl copies. Trying to put together a complete discography on Lex's Embryo label requires a lot of crate flipping through Utah thrift shops, with lots of redundant '70s and early '80s titles.
