The performances are fun listening: they include some shades of sentimentality, blues, soul, and swing stride. They playing never gets boring or pendantic. Each track could easily be one's favorite, and I would choose Someone Stole My Chitlins, and Filet of Sole, as close favorites. The next five tunes were recorded the previous night Dec. 28 and include Stanley Turrentine and Frank Haynes on Saxes, and Blue Mitchell on trumpet.
