The London Symphony Orchestra performs Bernstein's Symphony No. 2 - The Age of Anxiety, under the baton of the maestro himself. A very young yet Bernstein's Symphony No. 2 The Age of Anxiety is a piece for orchestra and solo piano. The piece was composed from 1948 to 1949 in the US and Israel, and was revised in 1965. It is titled after W. Auden's poem of the same name, and dedicated to Serge Koussevitzky. A friend is claimed to have given Bernstein the idea to write music based on The Age of Anxiety in a letter. All that being said, Bernstein's Symphony 2 Age of Anxiety is a marvelous and gripping work that like the music of Mahler or Shostakovich, seems to capture a 20th century feeling of angst in a changing world. Today, with global warming, the nuclear threat, economic instability, human rights abuses and so on, it seems that Bernstein's Age of Anxiety is no less relevant.
